On Tuesday, March 27 in Columbus, the 2018 Girls Softball Team will play in their first game of the season. The Seminarian sat down with Senior Captain, Monica Kurjan and Head Coach Jim Serich.

Kurjan expressed her expectations for the upcoming season saying how she feels they will be pretty decent and have a lot of talent this year. When we asked her how the team plans to have a better season than last, she answered, “Communication is key! Last year, we didn’t have good field communication, but this year are getting better.”

Kurjan believes having a young team is not a downfall since they all have experience and have played with upperclassman before.

Coach Serich is also looking forward to this season. The Sem asked how will not having a JV team affect the season?

He stated, “It won’t have any effect on season but does have an effect on upcoming years. It’s always nice to have continuity and have a feeder team. It does affect a few student athletes because of playing time.”

He added that having his daughter on the coaching staff has been “quite unique, it’s been a joy so far; it’s been nice having her around. She brings a nice edge because she is such a recent player, and with the success she had, she knows what it takes to get there.”

He along with the other seniors have high expectations for this year. These goals include “improving on what we did last year. be competitive every time out and don’t take any opponents for granted. Number one goal is to win tier, win section, win district, win region, and go to state!”

Good Luck to all the softball players and coaching staff!
