Around The World Christmas

Christmas is celebrated in many places but also in many different ways. As you travel around the world everywhere has their own different idea and traditions for celebrating this time of year. Here are just a few of them to get an idea of how different Christmas is celebrated everywhere

  1. Australia – In Australia since the sun is shining down in December the people here throw Christmas BBQ’s with family and friends.
  2. China – A tradition that is becoming popular in China is the giving of apples on Christmas Eve as gifts. The word Christmas Eve sounds very similar to the word apple so the two were brought together.
  3. Germany – Here in Germany you will catch everyone eating Stollen. Stollen is a German fruit cake eaten at Christmas time. This traditions dates back to the 15th century when Stollen was given as Christmas gifts.
  4. Italy – Panettone is the heart of Italy at Christmas time. This sweet bread is usually about 12-15 cm high and packed with candied peel, sultanas, raisins and many more.
  5. Greece – On Christmas in Greece you will be served roast lamb or pork as your meat followed by a sweet filo pastry dish called Baklava. This dish includes chopped nuts with sweet honey or syrup sauce.
