Poland student wins second place in local writing contest
Recently, Seminarian Reporter Jonah Spencer won second place in the The Youngstown Public Library’s Ninth Annual Danielle Scott Memorial Six-Word Memoir Contest, which was only for Mahoning County students in grades 7-12.
Most English classes from Poland in grades 9-12 submitted for the contest.
Spencer said, “I didn’t expect to win at all. I was so surprised when I got the phone call saying I has won second place.”
Spencer was alarmed when he saw an unknown number calling him, initially.
He said, “When the lady said it was someone from the library, I thought I had forgotten to return a book.”
Spencer’s memoir read: “I get those chills every time.”
Spencer said, “It was about being a senior in high school.”
He is receiving $35 and said, “You never know what could happen.”
