PSHS Art Show Winners
PSHS is getting artsy!
By Dani Scott
In 2018, PSHS has been fighting for the gold in every sport and club, but the art students have given us an overwhelming amount of winners! The art students participated in the Mahoning Art Show Contest and seniors Marlie Kluchar, Hanna Blake, Kaitlyn Battaglia, Katy Smith, Alexis Rodriguez with additions of junior Chelsea Kilgore and sophomore Sierra Sebastian all won in different places and received different awards. The competition was based off of ‘mediums’ which was the style of each piece of work and is open to the whole county with thousands of pieces entered.
Art Teacher Mrs. Holub entered 13 students in the contests and said she knew a few were going to win because “the artwork was phenomenal.”
Senior Marlie Kluchar won first place in the ‘precious metal’ division. She has won several different times in all kinds of different art shows, but this one was a bit unexpected, considering she did not know her art teacher, Holub, had entered her in the contest.
“I wasn’t aware I was entered in it, so it came as a shock when I heard back that I won,” said Kluchar.
Seniors Hanna Blake and Kaitlyn Battaglia both took places in charcoal, with Blake winning the district award and Battaglia winning first place.
Senior Katy Smith won first in acrylics alongside Alexis Rodriguez, who won third in acrylics.
Smith said, “It was really cool finding out, and I am really excited for the banquet!”
Chelsea Kilgore won third place in ‘mixed medium’ and was very content when she found out.
And lastly, Sierra Sebastian won the honorable mention in chalk pastels.
The awards banquet will be held May 2 at MCCTC if you would like to see any of their work. Congrats on a job well done, ladies!
