Kindness Boomerang: Mrs. Simko
Poland Seminary High School
By: Jonah Spencer
Mrs. Simko, a high school English teacher from Poland Seminary, has not only taught kids, but have inspired them. She was a student teacher in 1975, then was a substitute when her kids were in school; then, she obtained her first official teaching job in 2001. I had the chance to sit down with her and ask her why she wanted to start teaching.
Simko said, “My family put a huge value in education my whole life, and of course, I like to be around the students.”
Mrs. Simko has many reasons for loving teaching.
She said, “I’m always learning something new.”
Although that sounds like a simple response, that is a main reason why Mrs. Simko is a great teacher. She doesn’t only care about her student’s education, but their lives as well. She listens when students talk about anything, and she responds in an honest way, and that is why she inspires students as a teacher. I know she has inspired not only me but students throughout the school and even kids who have graduated.
We appreciate Mrs. Simko and all she has done and continues to do for the students at Poland Seminary High School!
