Guys and Dolls set to Open March 23, 2023
The Poland Players are putting on a production of Guys and Dolls March 23, 24, and 25th. So much work is put into putting on a show behind the scenes that people don’t even realize. The actors and actresses involved in this production have been practicing since the first week of January.
The crew has been hard at work making sure that all the transitions happen smoothly, and everyone has been helping build the sets over countless hours on Saturdays.
“Sometimes people don’t realize how complicated things can be because its not just moving set pieces and backdrops and furniture, there’s a lot of communication and coordination, sometimes we’re helping with costume changes, we tend to have to sub in and keep everything running smoothly,” Senior Emily Beal said.
On the nights of the show, the makeup crew is hard at work making sure the actors look stunning, and the light and sound crew make sure they can be seen and heard. This musical includes lots of talented young musicians playing all the background music for the show.
The leads in this play are Seniors Owen Lu, Gia Len, Bella Beight, and Junior Geroge Mailis.
The entire cast and crew spend countless hours working hard to make the production the best it can be.
“The hardest thing about being in play is trying to dedicate enough time to it. When you have a lead you have to honor the character, you have to put enough effort into it where the character can come alive,” Owen Lu said.
The cast ranges from Freshmen to Seniors, and they all have dedicated countless hours. Practices are usually two hours a night in the beginning and by the end range to four hours a night. Practices are usually 4-5 nights a week. The cast and crew have been working on this show for three months.
The people in play are dedicated to making this the best show possible, and all want to support each other through everything.
“My favorite thing about play is making friends with everyone, because everyone is so nice, which is very comforting. It creates an environment where I feel like I can do anything. Everyone is very positive and supportive,” Freshmen Delaney Demitrios said.
