JD Memo For The Touchdown!
Throughout the community, many people know the story of JD Memo. In July, during one of the Bulldogs’ teaching days, the wide receivers and cornerbacks were doing one-on-ones. As Memo jumped up to snag the ball, he came down wrong on his leg. When Memo left the hospital that next day, he found out that he tore his ACL.
“It was terrible because I thought my season was over, and all the hard work was for nothing. It was very unfortunate, and I had people say I could play through it. I just need 6 weeks of rehab, and I would be ready to go,” said Memo.
After Memo found out that he had a chance to get back on the gridiron, he took it to heart. He worked even harder to get back on the field. He went from school to rehab right to practice with no break in between, working just as hard to the guy next to him. During the Bulldogs’ third game against Firelands, he recorded his first reception. This five yard touchdown though sounds like a slow start, it’s just the beginning.
As the second game was on the roll, the Bulldogs were dominating the Hubbard Eagles; in the fourth quarter, Memo was put in the game with one goal.
“Coach Pavlansky, Head Coach, told me he was going to try to get me the ball, and I got the play. So I lined up on the left side; Vito called me over and gave me the ball. At first, I didn’t think I was going to get in, but my brother was blocking for me, so I pushed it in,” said Memo.
This marked Memo’s first ever varsity touchdown, after a rough year for the Bulldogs last year. This moment for Memo, with only one goal of getting back into the swing of things, was one to remember.
“It was just an amazing surreal moment for me; I never thought I would have the opportunity to score. To be in the moment was just one-of-a-kind and was very emotional,” said Memo.
With this being Memo’s and many other Bulldogs last year, the Memo legacy will remain for a couple years to come. His brothers Hunter, Noah, and Kelly will soon be coming through the program; it is important to Memo that his brothers remember the legacy he will leave behind.
“I want to leave that hard-working mentality, never give up no matter what you are going through, always keep pushing and keep going. Nothing can stop you unless you let it,” said Memo.
The last dance for Memo, with many more games to come; especially with this important Friday, September 22nd, Homecoming-termed game against South Range.
