In the Poland Players’ decades of performing, and Mrs. Fonagy’s years of devoted directing, dozens upon dozens of shows, both plays and musicals, have been presented within Poland Seminary High School. Now, within the first semester of the 2023-2024 school year, a production of Robin Hood will be performed by the organization.
This fast-paced yet intricate production is a comical adaptation of the original Robin Hood plot, yet still includes all the original characters and progression of said original plot; Sherwood Forest is filled with aggravation, yet motivation in taking action, of the fact that their unassailable king has been struck down in position by Prince John and Lady Merle, two individuals of royalty in which are honed of evil. In an attempt to upgrade Prince John’s negative reputation, Lady Merle kidnaps Maid Marian, a woman in which Robin has been blissfully acquainted with since childhood, and enforces Marian’s marriage to Prince John. It is up to Robin Hood and his merry band of Sherwood Forest to obtain Marian, and dismantle Lady Merle’s scheme! From bubbly event scenes to brewing combat scenes, Robin Hood and others will make their heroic debuts just as done in any other plot, yet with charm only the Poland Players can assume.
The leads for this production include:
Senior George Maillis playing as Robin Hood,
Sophomore Celia Fleet playing as Maid Marian,
Sophomore Collin Rodgers playing as Friar Tuck,
Senior Olivia Loftus playing as Lady Merle,
Senior Vinny Sainato playing the Sheriff of Nottingham — who was recently designated as the Poland Players’ Senior President! — and more.
Stemming off the recent Poland Players’ President designation, as well, George Maillis has been assigned as Vice President, Lindsay Anderson has been assigned as Treasurer, Derry Daily has been assigned as Junior President, and Elliana Volpini has been assigned as Junior Vice President.
Each day, the actors undergo swift progression and improvement, whether major or minor; from the introduction of light crew and their roles in controlling stage light, to actors going “off-script” for line recitation, to actors’ costumes quickly being created and fit, the Poland Players are confirmed of their ability for efficient development, and the upcoming play dates being November 16, 17, and 18 only displays that further. All is of consideration to everyone, whether that be the actors themselves, for Mrs. Fonagy, or for the audience who attend each time to enjoy an intricate and well-built theatrical performance!
To reiterate, the Robin Hood play will take place on November 16, 17, and 18. The organization is elated to perform for all yet again — or, for new students, the first time — and to, as always, “break a leg!”
