Last week, Poland Seminary High School’s had Homecoming with a Vegas theme. Homecoming is an important part of any small-town community’s culture and tradition. Walking on the football field before the game and announcing the King and Queen acts as the initiation of the new school year!
The girls on Homecoming Court this year were Josie Norris, Bridgett Eckman, Lauren Shaw, Nadia Zarbaugh, and Caliope Kindinis. The boys on court included Paul Greco, Cole Fulton, Matthew Matisite, Andrew Todd, and Chris Denny.
The king and queen were announced on September 22nd, during the football game against South Range on our home turf. It was Cole Fulton and Bridget Eckman.
The Student Council President and Homecoming Court Nominee, Nadia Zarbaugh, had some thoughts on the theme. She said it was “…unique and fun.”
This is true for many students in the school. Homecoming is something that our younger selves saw as a landmark event of the high school experience. We also took a deeper look into what the homecoming court nominees were feeling during this special week.
Our starting running back and middle linebacker, Cole Fulton, said being on homecoming court was “…really cool getting voted by the grade.”
Homecoming court nominees, along with the king and queen, was decided by a vote held in August with everyone in the upcoming senior class casting their ballots.
Prior to the results, Fulton also stated his opinion in the winners saying “Paul Greco for king!!”
Another nominee on the girls court, Lauren Shaw, shared her thoughts.
Shaw said, prior to homecoming, “I’m really excited to walk down the field.”
Shaw stated when asked what she was looking forward to the most. Shaw elaborated on how the business casual attire for the walk was the hardest part of the whole process, and quoted, with some humor, “It’s actually really hard to find something to wear!”
Congratulations to all the nominees for making court, and congratulations to Cole and Bridget for winning!
