Senior year is very busy for students, especially when they have a full schedule. Whether they are involved in extracurricular activities, have a job, or are busy academically, everyone is consumed by thoughts of their future. Trying to live senior year to its fullest, students also have to consider which direction they will go with their future. Several PSHS seniors talked about their hopes for the year, as well as their hopes for their futures.
Matthew Butch is involved with many activities at the high school, including the marching and jazz bands, and the track team. Academically, he is working towards staying on track to become a valedictorian. He is a member of National Honors Society, as well as Italian Honors Society.
Maddie Garwood participates in many activities and school clubs. She was just elected treasurer of the school’s Interact Club, and is a section leader in marching band. Garwood was also a commended student for the National Merit Scholarship. With this and her other activities, she is also working to be a valedictorian.
Jacob Jenkins is on the school’s varsity football and baseball teams, and is excited with hopes to have a successful baseball season. Jenkins is also a member of NHS, and hopes to keep his grades up to remain a member for the year.
Liberty Lavelle is part of several clubs around school, and was just elected president of the Spanish Honor Society. She is also a member of the NHS. Academically, her goals for the year are to stay organized in school, and not to procrastinate.
While these students are all busy and involved at the school, several of them are also busy working. Garwood hopes to find a work/life balance this year. Butch says that his job “gave me a work ethic I didn’t have before.”
Some students may have jobs that are not exactly where they see their futures taking them; however, Jenkins is currently working at Edison Lighting. Thinking into the upcoming year, he would like to attend trade school and become an electrician, or work in HVAC.
There are many different interests for students at the Seminary, with ideas of their next moves in life. While some may attend MCCTC, practically ready to join the workforce after graduation, or some may still be figuring out their interests in a trade, others have begun their college search.
Students, of course, have differing ideas of where they would like their college to take them. Students Butch and Garwood are more interested in staying near to home, or at a reasonable distance. Lavelle would like to be farther away from home. Also thinking about their college majors, Butch is considering mechanical engineering, while Garwood and Lavelle both expressed interest in communications.
Despite all of these things adding to the senior class’ busy schedules, they still have exciting high school events to look forward to. For example, the upcoming athletic seasons, the school’s prom, and even the final celebration: graduation. Only time will tell where this class ends up, and a sense of excitement emerges as they have entered into their senior year.
