The Poland Seminary Interact Club has been a student-run community service organization since 2019. The club is run and organized by Mr. Martin, a PSHS history teacher, and is sponsored by the Poland Rotary. The major goal of this club is to provide service and help improve the community
“We put a lot of thought into how we wanted to form the club and the goals we had. The ultimate goal was to provide service to our community and help those in need,” said Martin.
Not only does the club benefit our community but it also provides students with community service hour opportunities. Many students join looking to gather hours for National Honors Society, college applications, or just to be selfless givers to their community. This club is for students that want to take time out of their day to help out those in need.
“The beauty of this club is it allows the members to truly do something that is selfless. Students join the club because they truly want to help people in the community and aren’t in it for individual achievements or accolades. Many students will go above and beyond this standard,” said Martin.
Poland Seminary has a high expectation of excellence, not only in the classroom, but also in how their students carry themselves outside of the classroom. Interact Club gives these students a chance to go out and do something bigger than just their schoolwork and maintaining good grades. Their goal outside of the classroom is building positive relationships with others and organizations.
“To know that we have people that are willing to put time in to help others and ask nothing in return shows we have a strong community. We do amazing things and build amazing relationships with the organizations that we volunteer for. For me personally, I’m very proud to be living, teaching, and raising a family in a community where we have shown we can be there for others,” said Martin.
The club primarily runs off of the opportunities presented by organizations all around the community that the students are involved in. The hardest part about this club is finding people to reach out for help. No matter what the cause, the club is proud to contribute.
Mr. Martin wants people to become involved or know a little more about the club. To find out more you can email him at [email protected] or reach out to an active club member.
“Sometimes I think people are scared to ask for help. We want people to ask. We want to be able to provide our services to our community,” said Martin.
To finish everything off, the leaders just want to say to not be timid, and to reach out and let anyone know, whatever the cause, the Bulldogs will be there to help.
