The Seminary 2023-2024 drumline has been very busy these past couple weeks. As a yearly tradition, the drumline attends multiple band nights and participates in parades throughout the year. These activities are all brought to them by their instructor, Mr. Matthew Hayes.
Hayes finds out about these events from other band directors.
“From there, it’s just announcing the event and if anybody can they’ll communicate that with me,” said Hayes.
The students themselves love partaking in these events, as they help bring them together and allow them to perform marching music outside of halftime.
“I enjoy the drum nights and other activities very much,” Quad player Devon Stec notes.
As a sophomore, drumline has given him a lot of experience.
Stec stated, “I’ve learned a large variety of instruments in percussion, and I enjoy it.”
Senior Caden Buck, who plays the snare drums, also reflects, “Playing the snare is a lot of fun. There’s a lot of different techniques and things to do with it…Hayes gives us good parts; they’re really fun to play”
Buck encourages more students and community members to attend smaller band activities such as their Drum Nights.
“Drum nights are always a lot of fun. It’s nice to see what other drumlines are doing and how they sound, and we get to play with them, so it’s always something to look forward to and hear,” said Buck.
