Week ten of the football season ended with a win, and Poland’s Economics Class and cheerleaders decorated the school’s halls and designed fun themes to dress up for the buildup to the game. Each hall was designed and set up for each grade’s own theme: Fairy-tale Freshmen, Surfin’ Sophomores, Journey through Hollywood Juniors, Sailor Seniors.
Although there are two classes, the economics classes are joined together to form one united business, Paw Print Productions. The economics class decided the themes for the four day week. Kyle Varkonda, a member of the Economics class, said that it was difficult to come up with unique themes since there are two spirit weeks each year. However, the team finally came up with fun designs that they knew everyone would enjoy. Tuesday was pajama day, Wednesday was Western vs. West Coast, Thursday was twin/squad day, Friday ended the week with the Backyard Brawl T-Shirt.
The cheerleaders made posters designated for their own grades. These themes and designs were deliberated and began to create all the decorations during the summer starting in July. The supplies were partially provided by the school or by Mrs. Hurdley, the PSHS Cheer Coach. Cheerleaders, like Mia Melone and Hailey Canfield, said that it took them over 5 days to set up everything for the entire school. However, they did not stop there; they would continually go out into the halls to fix fallen signs or other props.
We look forward to the spirit week in March towards the end of the basketball season. The themes the cheerleaders and economics classes are able to come up look promising due to the job they did this past week.
