The Poland Seminary Cheerdogs capped off their fall season with a competitive end. The girls participated in a local competition with five competing schools. The girls have also been given a great opportunity to participate in the All American Cheer Team. This gives a select group of girls chosen from a camp they attended in the summer to participate in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, cheer at halftime at a YSU basketball game, and many other opportunities. Cheer is a large part of Poland’s school spirit, and the cheerleaders put their time and work into making our school a more positive environment. Whether it’s spirit week or getting us ready for a big game, we know we can count on them.
Most of these girls have been cheering since they were merely in middle school, and it has become a big part of their life. Participating in a sport or an activity has an impact.
Junior Mia Melone and Senior Gabi Rondon have explained what it is like to be on the team and what it includes.
Melone said, “I did PLB for 6 years; then I took a little break and started again sophomore year.”
Melone has become a big part of the team and participated in the varsity team this football season.
Rondon explained that this year being a senior has brought her a sense of leadership.
“We get to pick what the team wears to school, teach cheers, pick music for our dances,” said Rondon.
She also explained how cheer has taught her valuable lessons and how to work as a team.
Rondon says, “Cheer has taught me a lot of things, one in particular is patience just like any other sport there’s no I in team, so working as a squad with all the girls takes a lot of patience from everyone.”
Rondon is also one of the few girls who were chosen to participate in the All American Team and will be in the Thanksgiving Parade in New York City this coming week.
Rondon’s excitedly says, “I’m hoping to get to experience many things with the girls from my team and girls.”
There are girls from all over the country traveling to the same place to participate in this parade, and it will be a great experience for the girls. Although football season is over, the girls are looking forward to continue rooting on our athletics and making this school a better place. Go Dogs!
