Over this Thanksgiving break, the Poland Boys Basketball JV Bulldogs went out early Saturday morning to play the Boardman Spartans. As the Poland squad arrived to sprint territory, although knowing it was only a scrimmage, they saw it like any other game. As they listened to their music and laced their shoes, time was slowly clicking till game time.
As the game went on, many fans in the stands would say it was a nail-biter. Going back and forth with the Dogs scoring a bucket, then the Spartans going down and answering right back. As the clock wound down, the Bulldogs did not secure the victory, yet did have a great game to build off. Star players, juniors, Nick Blanch and Colin McBride have a couple things to say about the game.
“It went really well; there were a lot of good things that we as a team experienced and found out about ourselves as a team,” said Blanch.
“My teammates are going to make this year one to remember, and I am ready to get some buckets,” said McBride.
Last Saturday really opened the door for new opportunities and gave a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel. This helped the team come up with goals in standards for them to live up to as the season went on.
“I mean, we have talented young players like Joe Zuccaro, Vito Komara, and Brady Kendall. Them, alongside Colin, Jeff, and I’s veteran leadership, have a championship squad. Not to mention, Zach Capan getting the call up to the big leagues to make us great after being the back-to-back champions in the freshman league,” said Blanch.
To end off this view of what the JV squad will look like, the veteran players have a couple words to say.
“LETS GO BOYS!” said McBride.
Though the game did not go their way, the community and myself all know that it is just the beginning for this overpowered team.
