This year Poland Seminary High School is bringing back an old tradition…SWEETHEARTS! Many people also know it as a “Sadie Hawkens” dance. This classic Americana tradition is a dance that will be held on February 24, 2024. The dance goes against the normal “boy ask girl” stereotype, and the ladies will step up to invite the boys!
The dance has been canceled in years past, due to poor attendance. But this year, with some much needed revamping of the dance, games, food, and fun will hopefully bring back the crowds! At the dance, there will be food and refreshments, games, and a cutest couple will be crowned at the end!
Student Council decided to bring back this dance after holding a vote. As we mentioned before, it had been a couple of years since the dance had last been hosted. Going directly to the Student Council, we decided to see their insight regarding the dance.
Sophomore Student Council Representative, Emerson Gomen, said she’s excited to “…get a dress and get dressed up.”
Junior president, Kate Harrell, says that she is excited to get ready for the dance as well, telling us that her favorite part of most dances is getting ready for them!
After the student council votes were almost unanimous, student council representatives knew the dance needed to be brought back!!
Harrell said she’s “…looking forward to spending time with my friends and getting all dressed up.”
She also said she “…hopes people will show up and everyone will have a fun time.”
Student council has decided that they would love to keep this tradition going for more years to come!!
The attire for this dance will be similar to Homecoming attire (we are excited to save the long dresses for prom in the spring!). Tickets are $15 each, which is a steal for the food, music, fun, and crowning that will take place!! The dance does not require a date, so bring your friends! Or find a boy and ask him! We are excited to see how this year’s Sweethearts dance turns out, and we hope those planning to attend are too.
