The 2023-2024 Swim and dive season just came to a very exiting wraps. We had 1 swimmer go to state and 7 others go to districts, and many records being broke throughout the season. We also had one of our divers make it to state and 3 make it to districts.
Lets start with the state swimmers. Making it to state in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle is swimmer Ian Vandervort. Ian preformed phenomenally in sectionals and districts, which led him to state. He placed 30th and 25th in those two events. Our diver who made it to state is McKenna Daley. She did amazing in districts and did well in the state meet as well.
Next, is the two records that were broken this season. Those two records being the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay. The first record broken was the 200 freestyle relay, which was previously broken last year. This relay consisted of swimmers Sean Zura, Aaron Vandervort, Jake O’Bruba, and Ian Vandervort. This record was also broken again at the districts meet only a week later, by the same swimmers. The second record that was broken was the 200 medley relay record. This record was broken by Jake O’Bruba, Aaron Vandervort, Gabe Bettross, and Ian Vandervort. This was also broken at the districts meet.
Districts was a good and bad meet for some swimmers. The 200 freestyle relay only missed out on state by one spot and 0.1 seconds. Swimmer Sean Zura had some words to say about this… “After missing out on state by 0.1 seconds, it is very tough to accept where the 200 free relay currently is. Next year the relay needs maximum effort in practice and meets from those in it. With everyone from the relay returning, there is no excuse to not make state. Every yard of each practice needs to be done, so a repeat of this year does not happen again,” Quoted Zura
Outside of the playoffs the team did very well. They won the NE8 conference for the second time in a row. And they went “undefeated,” beating every team they faced in the regular season in Division two.
The Swim and Dive team is starting to make its jump back into relevancy and they don’t plan on stopping. Having two state swimmers and divers is very impressive and they also have countless other district to state level swimmers that are proving what it is to be a bulldog. We will have to sit back and watch what this very promising team has to offer!
