The Poland Seminary Marching band had the opportunity to play for the Youngstown Phantoms hockey team down at the Covelli Centre against the Waterloo Black Hawks on February 29. This is the second time the marching band has been offered this opportunity to play in the game. Better yet, the Phantoms took the win with a 10-4 score.
The Youngstown Phantoms holds an annual School Game Day every season and welcome a multitude of schools to come and watch the game while also providing a learning experience. Elementary-middle school students received interactive booklets to follow throughout the game as an active practice of their S.T.E.A.M learning objectives. Students also had the opportunity to receive shirts, pucks, visit and take pictures with Sparky and other team merchandise throughout the center as well as concessions.
Along with the marching band, the Poland Middle School also attended this game with their teachers and principals. The Poland Seminary Marching Band has been deemed the “house band” for all future “School Game Days.”
The band performed several times throughout the quarters, and were able to perform past halftime tunes from 2021. Some of these songs included: “Word Up” and Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble.”
