National Honors Society is one of the best “clubs” Poland Seminary High School has to offer. Students collect 40+ community service hours, while also keeping track of everything they have been involved with starting at the beginning of freshman year. The induction ceremony took place February 22, 2024, where students were called up to the stage one by one.
The seniors, who have been in the NHS for two years now, gave speeches on scholarship, involvement, leadership, and knowledge. The ceremony was concluded by lighting candles from the flame of knowledge, and stating the NHS pledge.
All new NHS students worked hard to be inducted. They needed 40+ community service hours, and they needed to have multiple examples of leadership they have shown. Their hard work was acknowledged in front of family, friends, and teachers. The Induction Ceremony for the society was held February 22 and, for the class of 2025. Requirements to be considered for this Club is an impressive resume, including a 3.5 GPA, and recommendations from teachers. A student must have a reputation for being academically excellent, and of strong character.
National Honors Society is an honor to be a part of, so congratulations to the new members!
Lucy Harrell and myself (Lucienne Hopps) had the opportunity to become a part of the NHS and decided to interview the speaker who presented a speech for the new inductees.
High School History Teacher, Mr. Rowe, gave a speech about “…not being satisfied with this accomplishment.”
Mr. Rowe pointed out an important aspect of NHS; He emphasized that though National Honors Society is a big deal, it should not be the cumulation of all the new member’s hard work. Rowe said that this is important to think about for all our new members, and I urge them to keep reaching for their goals, and to not stop striving for greatness.
“The main gist was that I would like the honorees not to be satisfied with just being in the NHS; it shouldn’t be the best honor,” said Mr. Ronald Rowe.
Congratulations to all the new members of the National Honors Society! Hopefully, the future is bright and good for you all. Go out into the world and do great things, and as Mr. Rowe urges, do not settle for only this honor, but mark it as the beginning of the journey of excellence.
