On Saturday, March 16, we had the pleasure of seeing the most recent Poland Players Production, Popstars the 90’s Musical. Poland Players have been putting on shows for many years with people graduating each year. Its casts have been a revolving door of talent, and this year is no different.
Popstars is described as a high-energy musical packed with smash hits from the hyper-colored 1990’s by artists such as Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, TLC, NSYNC, Christina Aguilera, MC Hammer, and many more. The energy of the cast, crew, and orchestra did not disappoint once during this show.
Senior Vincent Sainato plays the hero of the story Mark; Sainato’s acting was strong throughout the entire show, hitting his comedic marks on time and with a purpose. He held his own musically throughout the show.
Sophomore Collin Rodgers takes on the role of Patrick, who is Mark’s best friend, and is a comedic highlight throughout; Rodgers took any moment he could to make a great choice and get a good laugh from the audience.
Sophomore Delaney Demetrios portrays the love interest and wickedly talented Ella. Demetrios was an absolute star in this show. She took every moment to show off her talent and blew it out of the water; her acting and singing was first rate. She was certainly no slouch when it came to dancing as well. Demetrios played her character as a strong person with a heart of gold as she mentored Mark to help the boys of Y2K throughout their competition.
Senior Olivia Loftus dominated the stage with her presence, and she brought a certain attitude to the character of Shannon that created such an amazing contrast between her and her “twin” Patrick.
Some of the best parts of live theater is the live orchestra. I love hearing a band play classical musical theater songs, but hearing a live band play this jukebox musical was still a treat. The orchestra was composed of students and hired adults alike.
The students in the Poland Players showed they can make the most with what their given, and they truly worked very hard to put on a great performance, and it showed through and through, another congratulations to the Seniors: Vincent Sainato, Olivia Loftus, Lindsay Anderson, Liam Burk, Jason Vuksanovich, Katelyn Hupp, and Katelynn Roberts/
At the end of the show, Mrs. Candy Fonagy, announced her retirement now that she has directed 45 shows in her career. She will be missed very dearly by The Poland Players along with the community; we wish her well in her years to come.
