Recently, the Boys and Girls Lacrosse teams went head to head against their 224 rivals, Canfield. Although both games didn’t go as planned, both teams went out onto the field and gave it their all.
Starting Senior Faceoff George Maillis shared his opinion on how the Boys Bulldogs LAX team can strike back again in their next game against Canfield.
“We need to turn over the ball less,” said Maillis.
The turnovers were a great problem in the grueling game against Canfield.
The boys did lose by one point, with the final score being 6-7. Senior Jacob Zura scored 1 goal. Sophomore Connor Mould had a hat trick with 3 goals. Finally, Senior Cole Eaton had 2 goals.
The team was still pumped about their performance; everyone on the team did play well, and it was a great improvement on how the team played against Canfield last year.
“I feel like the team stood tall in the game; when we got hit, we got right back up ready to take another hit. We played our hearts out, and even though the outcome isn’t what we wanted, I’m still very proud of how everyone played,” said Maillis.
Currently as this article is being written, the Boys team is 0-4. They had a tough loss against Canton Central Catholic, and a very very close game against Southeast. Their next game is at home against another rival West Geauga.
Going over to the Girls LAX team, they also had a tough game against Canfield. The score was 17-6, and all 6 goals were scored by star LAX player Lucy Harrell.
Harrell still has hope in the team, though.
“We definitely still need to grow as a team; our defense struggles a bit, but it’s a hard concept to execute well. Canfield is a pretty developed program, so I try not to measure our success based off of our performance against them,” said Harrell.
As of today, the girls are also 0-4, with losses against Mooney and Boardman. Both programs are very developed, and the girls still have a ton of time to bounce back and recover from their losses.
We wish both teams luck for the rest of their seasons, and we hope to see both of their teams in the playoffs later this school year!
