Tennis is one of the most underrated sports that is offered at our school. But, it is growing tremendously, and the team has been more thrivent than ever.
The tennis team is lucky to have one of the best tennis players in the state, Andrew Aey. Aey is ranked #15 in the state, and #3 in the district. Tennis is one of the most rewarding sports, and people can be very competitive.
Currently, the tennis team is 5-2, but Aey has won every one of his matches, so far.
Aey revealed that OHSAA has changed the rules and regulations on how to make it to state.
“There is a new system that is being used to get to state; one section has been a little overcrowded with the best teams, so the OHSAA didn’t think it was fair to be taken out by better players. They moved good teams into other sections because they were too overpowered. The top 16 teams in any section are allowed to move to different sections. We could get one of the best teams in our state in our section which would not be good. It will be very difficult to make it to state this year. Only 16 people make it to state. Only 4 people from 4 districts make it to state,” quoted Aey.
This new rule could change how people in our school could make it to state. Aey is still optimistic on his chances of making it, though.
Aey is also optimistic about the current state of the tennis team.
“I think the team depends more on the players; Ryan Nigh and Liam Burk have been doing very well too. We also have some new players that are very promising like Parker Ogden and Saminder Tuli. But we have lost some important players on the way as well, so it balances out,” said Aey.
The tennis team still has some obstacles to overcome, but the future looks promising. They have one of the best players in our state, and an amazing group of players that is the reason why they have found such success.
