Poland Boys Baseball wraps up a successful regular season and plans to continue into playoffs. The team finished with a 16-4 overall regular season record with a 10-3 conference record and a conference championship. Regular season ended on Monday with a 4-2 loss to South Range. Despite their five losses, this year they have displayed impressive team chemistry to give them a successful season. The last game resulted in a 2-1 loss to Ursuline on Thursday.
On May 16, the Bulldogs hosted their first playoff game at home versus Youngstown Ursuline. Tensions were high to advance, and both teams showed a very competitive nature. Starting pitcher was Jacob Hayes who threw an impressive full game, giving up no earned runs and throwing six strikeouts. The game started off as a stalemate between the two. No runs were scored until the 4th inning when the Bulldogs took the lead 1-0 with the run brought in by a double from Matt Paparodis. Tukalo also contributed majorly going 2-3 on the night. The 5th inning continued with no runs, then in the 6th the Irish tied it up due to an error. Another error in the 7th inning sealed the deal as Ursuline took the lead.
Though the Bulldogs season came to a quick end, the season was nothing but impressive lead by the senior class. Throughout the season, the boys came together as a whole to make this season nothing but perfection. The game in the end did not go how it was expected to go but still this season should not be dismissed. The Poland Team will be missing a lot of crucial seniors but will be led by an experienced young team. As a whole, the baseball organization would like to give a farewell to their great leading seniors.
