The staff had many options when picking our Athlete of The Month this September, but ultimately we decided on Senior girl’s soccer player Sophia Generalovich! Generalovich has entered her senior season very strongly and is leading her team in many statistics.
Generalovich plays striker and has been on the varsity team for multiple years. This season, she has scored 11 goals and made five assists. Additionally, she has helped her team to an impressive record of 9-1-1 overall and 7-0 in the conference.
Keeping up with school and an admirable athletic career is stressful. When I asked Generalovich how she deals with this, she had this to say:
“I handle stress and pressure by listening to music before games and just being comfortable with my teammates out on the field.”
This closeness and reliability between teammates perfectly emulates the culture shared among the team, and is a main reason for their success.
Generalovich has played soccer for 11 years, and throughout those 11 years, she has made multiple unforgettable plays and memories.
Generalovich said, “My favorite memory by far was scoring the game winning goal in the district championship my Sophomore year.”
This is very impressive, especially since she was only a sophomore at that time. Generalovich has since used this momentum to catapult her to achieve even greater things in her career.
It is easy to see that Generalovich is extremely talented, and although she herself has put in many hours of work, she gave a lot of credit to her father. This is what she had to say:
“The person who made me the player I am today is probably my dad, he always pushes me to do my best and gives me advice when I’m low about sports.”
In Poland’s a game on Wednesday, September 18, the team defeated South Range Raiders in dominant fashion, scoring nine goals as opposed to the Raiders’ zero.
In this game, Generalovich scored two of the team’s goals off only three shots.
As the season wraps up, make sure to go out and support Generalovich in her last High School season and watch the team’s insane run unfold.
