As the school year begins, the summer sports are coming to an end, including golf. After a successful beginning to the season, the girls and boys golf team took on NE8s recently and are on their way to Sectionals next. With the end of the 2024 season in sight, the golf teams had some things to say on their experiences this year.
“It was nice. One thing I always say as a coach is that when you have great kids it’s honestly a great season,” says the new girls golf coach, Mr. Ronald Rowe. “We had great players.”
The Golf NE8s were held on September 11 at Squaw Creek Golf Course near Warren, Ohio for both the girls and boys teams. With both teams coming off from a win last year, the players were excited to compete.
When being asked about how his experience at NE8 felt, junior Zach Ohlin said, “It felt pretty good. I had some rough holes and some good holes, but everything felt alright. I had a good time.”
The NE8s this year were incredibly successful, and the boys team even came out with a win and a new school record for 18 holes being set by sophomore Angelo Rinaldi.
While the official season is ending, the teams still plan on being active even during the off season. Both the coaches and players have goals and plans for next year.
“I’m in the process of working with a golf professional to see how often we can meet with the girls on the team during the off season,” says Coach Rowe.
He hopes to see consistent commitment from the golfers for the rest of the year as well as having more people join the team.
As for Ohlin, he hopes to stay in the top five of the boys team by, “Just playing more and going to different matches.”
With the 2024 season ending soon, the preparations for the 2025 season are just starting!
