The 2024 Poland Bulldogs Football Season is here, and it has started out with a big BOOM. Poland recently had one of its most historic and entertaining games yet. This was their game against NE8 Rival, Hubbard.
Starting off the night was the homecoming king and queen ceremony. In running for queen was Lucy Harrell, Kate Harrell, Anjolena Faunda, Ava Blinsky, and Lucienne Hopps. The nominees for homecoming king were; Dom Yurich, Nick Blanch, Collin McBride, Tyler Canfield, and Michael Daley. The winner for Homecoming Queen was Lucy Harrell and the winner for Homecoming King was Dom Yurich.
Lucy Harrell was interviewed on how she felt about winning queen.
Harrell said, “I wasn’t expecting it actually. I wanted Kate to win because I feel that she deserved it more than I did. I was super grateful for sure.”
Lucy also talked about how she felt about the game that followed her win as queen.
I thought it was a good theme and a good vibe. The game was a good one too. . . It was really nice to have everybody tell you congratulations and give you hugs and smiles,” said Harrell.
After the homecoming ceremony was the main event of the night, the game started out well for Poland scoring one touchdown by Senior wide receiver Joey Varone, thrown by sophomore quarterback Vito Komara.
Going into the most eventful quarter of the game, starting off strong was a touchdown by Freshman quarterback David Xipolitas. Then the second touchdown of the quarter was from Senior Tight End Oliver McCully.
After that was a record breaking play by Quarterback/ Corner Vito Komara. Komara picked off a would be touchdown pass from Hubbard, and Vito ran 104 yards to score a touchdown for Poland. This was a new school record for longest touchdown in school history.
“Immediately after I was in shock of what just happened, and while I was running off the field, my teammates and coaches congratulated me; on breaking the school record which I hadn’t even thought of after the play, felt really good,” said Komara about breaking the record.
Komara had a lot to prove to the crowd after a devastating loss to rival Canfield a week prior.
“Almost every game I’m nervous about the game, but this game I felt a more sense of urgency in my step which was ultimately from the week before coming off a loss from Canfield,” Komara stated.
Vito expects to keep the ball rolling in games to come.
The third and fourth quarter ended with zero points from both teams. The final score to the game was 28 Poland to 0 Hubbard.
Good luck to all of the Poland Bulldog Football Players in their games to come! And congratulations to Dom Yurich and Lucy Harrell for winning homecoming king and queen!
