The boys golf team has been extremely impressive all season, and they just solidified themselves as State Championship contenders. The team consists of three sophomores: Ryan Lombardo, Matthew Morrone, and Angelo Rinaldi, as well as Juniors, AJ Battaglia and Zach Ohlin.
Led by head coach Pat Carden and Assistant Coach Jason McQuown, the team quickly emerged as a prominent contender as they excelled at every tournament they attended throughout the summer and early fall.
The Division II Boys District Tournament at Windmill Lakes, took place on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. The team shot 312 holes and placed second, just shy of Chagrin Falls 305 holes.
The team is looking to improve their overall pay before state as Ryan Lombardo stated they are doing so through “a bunch of practice rounds.”
Similarly, Angelo Rinaldi stated that he is working on his personal game by “working on putting and short game.”
This year, the team has beaten many school records. For example, Matthew Morrone and Angelo Rinaldi have both beaten individual school records. Further, as a team, they have beaten the school record for nine holes with 137 shots. These records are quite impressive as Poland has a prominent golfing past.
The Division II Boys Golf State Tournament will took place on Sunday, October 13, 2024. In closing, the staff would like to congratulate the team for their hard work and success this season.
