On October 21 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. , the PSHS Spanish Club ran an event to celebrate Halloween. For the past six years, they have celebrated with a trunk or treat event. In this event, the high school students dress up and decorate their cars to pass out candy to the younger students. There are also other activities as well as light refreshments provided for the attendees. Consequently, this event gets amazing feedback each year and is often described to be a fun and family-friendly event.
The main goal of this event in 2024 is to raise money for the PSHS Spanish Club Scholarship Fund that is used to provide help for any PSHS student that intends to major or minor in Spanish. The Spanish teacher, Ms. Latronica, had this to say when asked about it:
“We ask for a donation per child and we put that money towards something every year and the money is often used for the scholarship fund.”
In the event’s first year it did not have many attendees, but as time has passed the event has grown largely. Ms. Latronica praised the attendance of the event each year and the fact that it keeps growing.
She specifically stated, “The event has blown up, and now we have 300 kids or more show up and this number grows each year.”
Overall, the event provides a safe space for families to connect and bond over family friendly activities. Due to this the event receives extremely positive feedback each year from all members of the community and is projected to stay a key promotion event for the Spanish Club in years to come. Happy Halloween!
