As the leaves start to fall from the trees and the Christmas decorations start to fill peoples houses, it is time to know when Fall is over and Winter is beginning. Another indicator is when our fall sports come to an end. Many of the beloved teams had outperformed expectations, made far playoff pushes, and made state appearances!
Starting off with girls soccer: every year, girls soccer manages to make the playoffs and win a lot of games every season. This year the Lady Bulldogs went 15-4-2, which is an incredible record. The girls went 10-1-1 in the conference, also. They were eliminated in the playoffs by Chagrin Falls, the score was 1-0. The biggest standout player on the team was Senior Sophia Generolovich, who broke the school record for total goals. Some other standout players were Senior Ava Blinsky and Sophomore Ellie Lloyd. Blinsky was second in goals and assists on the team, and Lloyd led the team in assists.
The next sport is boys soccer. This year the team went 17-4-1, which is a magnificent season. Their conference record was 9-1 being first and their only conference loss being against Hubbard. They lost to Beachwood 3-0 as they would make it to where there were only 8 teams left. The standout player was Michael Daley, senior goalkeeper who averaged 4.1 saves per game. Other breakout players such as Andreas Tsikouris who averaged 0.8 goals per game and Colin McBride who averaged 0.7 assists per game.
The next sports are boys and girls golf. The boys golf team beat last years expectations, when Freshman Angelo Rinaldi made it to states. This year five of the golfers made it all the way to state. Some other accolades that the team racked up was an NE8 Championship, and a new record for the lowest score for 18 holes was set by Sophomore Angelo Rinaldi. The girls golf team made it sectionals. Some of the standout golfers for the girls team were Sophomores Lila Gordon and Samantha McKenzie.
Next, volleyball had a record of 3-17 and 3-9 in the conference. The wins that the team had this year were against Niles twice and Struthers. Some of the standout player on the team are Senior Lucienne Hopps, Sophomore Izzy Greco, and Juniors Avery Jakubovic and Leanna Boccieri.
Next up is one of the toughest and most grueling sports in the school, which is cross country. The cross country team this year made it to districts and Regionals. Lucas Knez made it the farthest on the team being the only runner to make it to Regionals. The team also won the NE8 for boys and girls running. Some standout runners for the boys team are Junior Lucas Knez, Senior Derry Daily, and Junior Sean Zura. Some of the standout girls runners are Sophomore Mila Milosevic, Senior Kate Harrell, and Senior Sarah White.
Next is girls tennis, which is in the fall. The girls won the NE8 title this year. Senior Lucienne Hopps won NE8 player of the year and won the WYTV Student Athlete of the Week.
The last sport is football. The football team went 11-3 and made it to the round of 8 teams. Unfortunately, they ended up losing to South Range 17-16 in a last minute heart-breaker. The team broke all expectations. It was the first time since 2019 that the team has made it that far in the playoffs. Captains Tyler Canfield and Oliver McCully played a huge role in the team’s success as a whole, as well as all the other seniors that were on the team.
We are thankful for all of the student athletes that represent our amazing school and that sacrifice time and effort to play for us. We also wish the athletes for winter and spring success, and we hope they bring our school even more glory and spirit!
