The weekend of February 21, 2025, members of the Poland Seminary High School Cheer Team competed at the OASSA State Championship Competition in the Game Day Building category. The girls managed to secure an impressive ninth place in division four. Furthermore, they did this with a small team of just eleven girls compared to the twenty that competed with most other schools. This team consisted of two seniors, one junior, three sophomores, and five freshmen. Lainey McGivern and Angelina Mrofchak were the two seniors, and they played a significant role in leading the team throughout the season and at state. Similarly, Coach Hurdley and Coach Pecchia were influential in guiding the team.
Coach Hurdley said that “proud is an understatement” as she is extremely impressed with how the small group of girls beat the odds and placed among much larger teams.
Hurldey said that they were able to do this because of the girls’ hard work and dedication throughout the long season.
This statement shows just how much grit and passion our cheerleaders have, for they competed against 185 other teams, and still succeeded despite having a much smaller team. This attitude has transferred to many other endeavors for the squad as they have also sent many cheerleaders to perform in the Macy’s Day Thanksgiving Parade and created an atmosphere where school spirit thrives.
Congratulations to the squad on an amazing season, and good luck in those to come!
