The Poland Baseball and Softball teams are just about to start their seasons and are both looking to have big years. Both teams are heavily made up of underclassmen with baseball only having 3 seniors and softball only having 1 senior.
This, however, does not seem to be a roadblock for either team as they are both looking to be in the running for the NE8 title.
Baseball opened up with Hubbard at Hubbard. They were able to go in and take care of business as Senior Tyson Tarajack set a new school record throwing 17 strikeouts in just the first game of the season. He let up 0 runs throwing a complete game for the Dogs.
On the offensive side, the Bulldogs were able to get the bats going enough to make it a 2-0 game as the final.
Senior Jacob Hayes was a huge aid on the offensive side as he had a RBI for the first run and ended up scoring himself.
Softball opened up NE8 play also against Hubbard in which they were in a tight game that came down to the wire, where they lost 9-7 at the end of the game.
Juniors Avery Jakubovic and Elliana Thompson were getting the bats going, each having back-to-back doubles early on in the game.
Jakubovic drove in Thompson for them to get some early runs on the board and ended up scoring herself as well.
Even with the loss, it was a good game for the dogs with a lot of signs of good things to come.
