The Poland Girls Lacrosse Team has been one of the most exciting and surprising teams to watch this year. They have started the season 10-3 with two more games to play. Those being against Green and rival Boardman.
The girls lacrosse team went 1-12 last season. Going from 1-12 to 10-3 might be one of the most impressive sports improvements our school has seen in recent history.
One player to rise from the ashes of last season is Junior, Lauren Cordek.
Lauren has been playing lacrosse for Poland since her freshman year. She is one of the key factors to why the team is playing at the level they are at now.
Cordek quoted, “And Lucy, our top player, can now rely on other people on the team.”
This quote represents the fundamentals of teamwork. A single player can lead a team, but can not single handedly win teams games.
Senior Lucy Harrell will be further pursuing lacrosse in college. She will be attending Hope college in Michigan, this fall.
Another factor that has changed this team, is off season work.
Cordek said, “I have gotten better as a player by joining club teams and putting in hours on the off season.”
We wish the girls luck in the next two games that they have. We also wish them luck in the playoffs. Hopefully, they can make it further than any other year.
