This season the softball team has competed in eighteen games, and forged a record of 11-7. They are 6-3 in the conference which leaves them ranked 3rd. Although the team has lost seven games, the average runs margin when they lose is just two. Recently the team has been on a hot streak, where they have won six out of seven games. One of their impressive wins came against the 14-5 West Branch Warriors. In this game the Bulldogs outscored them 9-3.
The team’s main appeal this season has been their offense, as they have a collective batting average of 0.667 and an on base percentage of 0.742. This is especially impressive because top teams like Boardman and Lakeview don’t have a collective batting average or on base percentage of over 0.400.
Leading the team’s offense is Junior, Elliana Thompson, who has the highest batting average, on base percentage, and amount of hits. Also, making a large offensive difference is Leanna Boccieri as she has the most runs brought in, the second highest batting average, and the second most hits. Other contributors include Cassie Blanch and Lily McDonald who have each hit two home runs this year.
On the defensive side Junior pitcher, Lily McDonald, pitches most games and has an ERA of 4.67. As the team’s second pitcher, Madison Medvec, a Freshman, has recorded an ERA of 2.56. Helping them reach this goal were 1st baseman, Cassie Blanch, and catcher, Leanna Boccieri; they both have a fielding percentage of above 0.970, and have a combined four errors on 208 chances. This means that they have a combined 99% completion rate. As a whole, the team has a 0.933 fielding percentage. This combined with the team’s strong offense is their key to success.
The team has a bye their first round of the playoffs and will compete in the second round on 5/19 at 5 p.m. against the winner of Andover Pymatuning Valley vs. Garretsville Garfield.
