As the school year draws to a close, there are many different things to recap from new school initiatives to sports and clubs. This past year was filled with accomplishments and exciting pep rallies, so here’s a showcase of the most prominent.
This was a tremendously successful year for Poland in sports, and it continues to be with baseball’s impressive record of 16-4. Similarly, the girls lacrosse team has forged an extraordinary record of 13-3.
In the winter, boys basketball racked up a 16-8 record, but more impressive was their 11-1 record in the conference.
Notable in the fall was the football team’s stately record of 11-3 and their run to the round of eight teams. Similarly, both the girls and boys soccer teams had deep playoff runs into the regional finals and semifinals.
In the early summer, the boys golf team broke multiple records and went all the way to the state tournament.
All in all, Poland’s athletics have taken bounds this year, and are projected to continue this in the future.
Two of the most popular clubs in Poland are the foreign language clubs. The Italian Club is led by Mrs. DiTommaso, and the Spanish Club is led by Mrs. Latronica. These two clubs combined for some of the school’s favorite events. For example, they held a Trunk or Treat event where younger students from the county dressed up and trick-or-treated throughout the maze of decorated cars in the high school parking lot. A popular event for students was the Tacos and Tiramisu lunch where peers gathered after school to indulge in traditional Italian and Mexican food.
On a similar note, the student council was very prominent this year running events such as the Homecoming and the Sweetheart Dance.
Other school events from the past year include the multiple plays and musical performances. There were two plays over the course of this school year. One of these was a portrayal of The Little Mermaid, and the other that of Caught in The Act. Similarly, there were two music concerts both featuring the band and choir. As a school, we also participated in the YSU English Festival where schools joined together to explore various novels and meet some of the authors. Also, the school recently hosted an art show to showcase the school’s multiple talented artists and their Scholastic awards.
Overall, the 2024-2025 school year was an exciting time for the entire school!
