In a hard-fought rivalry game between the Poland Bulldogs and the Canfield Cardinals, the Cardinals picked up the win in the Battle of 224.
In the first quarter, the Bulldogs had a great start to the game with an 8-minute offensive drive resulting in a touchdown by Pano Xipolitas. The Bulldogs then ended the quarter with a fumble recovery, having all the momentum leading into the second quarter.
Going into the second quarter, the Bulldogs get the ball, but with a quick three-and-out drive leading to Enzo Cocca having a 30-yard rushing touchdown, making the game 7-7.
Bulldogs then have another long drive leading to a Salvi Carmussa 27 yard field goal making the game 10-7 going into the third quarter.
Canfield came out of the third quarter striking, leading to a 30 yard touchdown to Landon Shina putting the Cardinals up 14-10 in the third quarter. Poland comes back striking but only ends in a 43 yard field goal from Salvi Carmussa, making the score 14-13.
The fourth quarter starts, and Enzo Cocca throws a 26-yard touchdown to Matthew Campbell and puts the Cardinals in front 21-13. Bulldogs can’t get anything going offensively, which leads to a 55-yard touchdown catch from Donnie Ferko putting them up 28-13.
The Bulldogs would then get nothing going offensively, and Canfield’s Gabe Miller would run for an 8-yard touchdown, making the game 35-13 Canfield as they win the Battle of 224 for the second year in a row.
After the game, the Star player for the Bulldogs Vito Komara was asked, “What could you have done differently to win the game?” Komara said, “I think the intensity of our game coming out of the second half was really weak, which we could get better at.”
He was also asked, “What are your expectations for the rest of the season?” He said we are going to win the NE8.”
