Poland Seminary High School’s Annual Spirit Week spanned Monday October 13th through Friday October 17th. When entering the school, students will experience not just the usual hallways, but themes coordinated to each with grade 7-12 decorating each wall.
Students as well as staff members are participating in dressing for each day of the week’s picked style chosen by the school’s economics class. On Friday’s game day, classes will be shortened for the long awaited pep rally. During the assembly, cheerleaders will welcome each grade while Poland’s band plays along. Performances by flag line and cheerleaders, interactive games, and new announcements will be brought forth to the student body.
Behind all the creative background, Poland Seminary’s economics class takes on a big role concerning spirit week.
A current economic member, Senior Mia Peluso speaks on behalf of the class. Peluso said, “Monday is 2000/90’s, Tuesday twin/trio/group, Wednesday jersey, Thursday class color war, and lastly Friday is bulldog spirit or class economics shirts.”
Festivities include hamster ball, musical chairs, tic tac toe, and dodge ball during the pep rally.
Questioned with how the economics shirts are created Peluso expresses, “Group collaboration and finding fun cohesive ideas that kids would enjoy. We used apps specifically Custom Ink to achieve our overall outcome.”
To close off, Peluso hopes for seniors to win best hallway for 2025.
Poland’s Cheerleading Coach Mrs. Hurdley discussed the preparation for spirit week.
Mrs. Hurdley said, “Planning begins at the end of March, due to each cheerleader having to submit signs during tryout week. Later in June, they discuss amongst each other and determine the hallway themes. Decorating for spirit week started Thursday, October 9.”
Mrs. Hurdley expected her cheerleaders to have fun as well as enjoy decorating with the team.
Mrs. Hurdley said that her favorite theme from the past was “the 70’s theme with disco balls in 2022.”
All in all, an enthusiastic energy circulates through the responses of Peluso and Mrs. Hurdley. Students dress the themes as well as prepare for Friday’s long awaited pep rally. Enjoy dressing down all week!!
