Cross Country Goes to Regional Meet
The Regional Meet for the Poland Cross Country Team will be held at Boardman High School tomorrow on Saturday, October 29. The boys race starts at 11:45 a.m., and the girls race at 2:15 p.m. They can also qualify individually by placing in the top 24.
Coach Kim Grisdale said, “We are very excited for both the boys and girls cross country teams. Each team has had an exceptional season.”
Last year, the boys team has been AAC Champions for the second straight year, and the girls were runner-ups.
This year, the girls were District Champions, and the boys were runner-ups.
“The teams at our district meet were very strong. The fact that our runners were able to compete at such a high level is exciting as we head into an incredible regional field,” said Coach Grisdale.
Six teams can qualify to the State Meet, and in each race, there are many capable teams vying for those coveted spots.
According to Coach Grisdale, “The Poland Teams are among the top contenders, but anything can happen on race day!”
Coach Grisdale said, “Individuals can also qualify for State by placing in the top 24 at the race; Maggie Sebest is a two-time individual state qualifier, and Andrew Comstock was an individual qualifier last season. This year, they hope to have teammates join them.”
The course is spectator friendly, and all of the runners going include: Jet Bailey, Andrew Comstock, Sam Dwyer, Geno Gallo, Peter Koulianos, Marik Rogenski, Lewis Schaft, Noah Smith, Ellie Blasko, Sarah Boccieri, Evi Harakal, Jenna Jacobson, Josie Mayle, Sydney Norris, Maggie Sebest, and Gianna Stanich.
The team would greatly appreciate your vocal support at the race.
