Hacksaw Ridge

Hacksaw Ridge

In the year 2016, director Mel Gibson shined a light on one of the greatest stories of all time. The story of Private First class and medal of honor recipient Desmond T. Doss. Desmond was portrayed by actor Andrew Garfield, most known for his role in the Amazing Spider-Man remakes. This movie shows the life and service of Desmond during WWII and the battle of Okinawa. This isn’t your average everyday WWII movie, Desmond is a medic who refuses to carry a rifle, this is known a conscientious objector. The majority of the movie takes place on the island of Okinawa during the battles that took place there. The depictions of the battles in the movie were gritty but realistic, they made you feel a sense of fear, unlike any other movie. During this battle, Desmond saves over 75 wounded American soldiers by himself, all without using a gun. What makes this even better is that throughout the film it does an amazing job of building strong character relations, adding additional drama to an already dramatic situation. Overall this movie is a must see and is honestly one of the best movies of the year. The acting, directing, and overall plot of the movie are outstanding. Hacksaw ridge is a must see masterpiece of filmmaking.
