Softball team continues their hot streak

The Poland Girls Softball Team is off to a great start this year. The team is 17-0 on the season and looks to continue that streak into the playoffs come May.

Seniors Lauren Sienkiewicz (Shortstop) and Ashley Wire (Pitcher/Outfield) really like where the team is at for their final season as a Bulldog.

The team is built on a powerhouse offense as the majority of the starting lineup bats over .400, and the ones that don’t are very close to it.

The team has high hopes for the season and is not setting the bar low in terms of the team goal.

“Saying ‘Dogs to State’ is kind of used as a joke a lot of times in the school, but this team we take that seriously because we are playing really well together and do believe we have a shot at going to state,” said Wire.

The Bulldogs state status is not going unnoticed as earlier this week they were named the number three ranked team in division two by the OHSAA Coaches Poll.

Sienkiewicz and Wire have both been staples to the program as they are both four year letter winners, putting emphasis on a very experienced roster.

“We have a lot of players who have played since they were freshman in almost every class, so we have a lot of experienced players which has been a big part of why our offense has produced so well this year,” Sienkiewicz said.

Both girls are taking their skills with them to the next level as Sienkiewicz heads to John Carroll this fall and Wire to Westminster.

Come out to support the team on Senior Night as they take on the Struthers Wildcats on Tuesday, May 7, at North Elementary!
