Poland’s New Start Times

With the start of the 2022-2023 school year comes a big change for the students of Poland. Caused by the lack of bus drivers, the school day now starts 20 minutes earlier. The students of Poland Seminary High School have varying opinions on the matter.

The upperclassmen are not fans of the early start time. Senior Teresa Quinones commented, “Silly. What is 20 minutes going to do? I can’t sleep in and wake up at 7:00 a.m. anymore.”

Because of this, many students made it a priority to have a first period study hall, which would allow them to come in late. Junior Bella Koury feels that “tardies will be common getting into the school year.”

The Sophomores and Freshman seemed to not feel as strongly about the change.

Delaney Svatosky, Freshman, suggested, “. . . It is nice to be out earlier if you do after school activities, especially when you can go home at a decent time.”

Supporting this same idea, Gavin Matthew, Sophomore, also enjoys getting home early. He states, “I was a little upset at the beginning, but I don’t mind waking up earlier.”

There is not a collective opinion throughout the school. It will be interesting to see what changes, if any, could be made in the future.
