When one thinks about Thanksgiving, they may see a big feast and football games on the television, but what I bet most people think of is the ones whom they share this with. Whether it is through cooking, watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, eating, or watching football, everyone appreciates Thanksgiving’s ability to bring people together.
Thankful is defined as the expression of gratitude for another being, situation, or object. There are so many things to be thankful for in life and often these things go unnoticed; the holidays tend to serve as a reminder to show gratitude.
As Thanksgiving approaches, I asked the students here at PSHS what they are thankful for. Some of the popular responses included family, friends, food, shelter, water, health, etc.
I also asked what they were most looking forward to and the overwhelming answer was being with family. This perfectly shows the role that family plays in our daily lives and explains why we should share our appreciation for others.
On a simpler note, this year I asked students to share their favorite Thanksgiving foods and they all seemed to share similar responses: stuffing, mashed potatoes, cheesy potatoes, and mac’n cheese.
There are so many ways big and small to show others your appreciation, so this holiday season make sure to give thanks for every aspect of your life.
