Poland Girls Golf takes a swing at D1

The Poland Seminary High School Girls Golf team is currently undefeated in match play and is continuing their undefeated season at state on October 19-20 at The Gray Course in Columbus, Ohio.

The head coach of the team, Joe Colella, is very proud and motivational and is continuing to give positivity as they approach this weekend.

Colella reflects on the girls season and said that they have been doing very well and have learned to adjust to being division one. The girls have worked very hard all summer to improve their game and lower their scores.

Prior to sectionals, Colella said, “We just came out of a tournament and had the best round we have probably had in 5 years.”

Poland’s team this year is made up of four seniors and two juniors. The seniors are Elena Cammack, Jenna Jacobson, Marlie McConnell, and Jenna Timko. The two juniors are Gianna Myers and Carly Ungaro.

Two of the seniors, Elena Cammack and Marlie McConnell gave some words of wisdom before their last few matches and about their undefeated season.

McConnell said, “It feels great and it’s nice to know our hard work is paying off.”

Cammack added, “It’s a great feeling. There’s a few [teams] that have challenged us, and it’s good to know that we can compete with those teams.”

Cammack and McConnell have been playing competitive golf for four years.

Both girls say that they have taken golf seriously for four years now but have played since they were younger.

The seniors enjoy leading the team. They feel that the girls get along very well, and that they have improved a lot over the course of the last year as a team.

Congratulations, PSHS Girls Golf Team, and good luck at state this weekend!
