This season, the girls basketball team had a 17-8 record and made it all the way to the district finals.
This was a massive improvement from last year’s 11-12 record which was the lowest in the past five years. Although a few quintessential upperclassmen definitely played a part in this success, the freshman class proved their importance with multiple standout athletes.
Senior, Leanna Boccieri, was once again a key component of the team, leading on the court with her stellar defensive skills. Boccieri was awarded with Student-Athlete of the Week by WKBN27 which proves her athletic ability, as well as leadership capacity that allows her to lead her teammates.
Other starters included freshman standouts Brooklyn Kosco and Briella Rowe as well as juniors Cassie Blanch and Isabel Greco. Kosco and Rowe both proved great additions to the team this year, primarily subject to their shooting abilities. This combined with Boccieri’s aforementioned defense skills brought the team much success.
Although injured for part of this season, Senior Elliana Thompson deserves applause for her tremendous career and contributions off the court this year. We would also like to congratulate seniors Lauren Coss and Lily McDonald on the impressive season.
Clearly, the team is extremely talented, but they also possess a close bond that pushes them to support each other through adversity which allowed them to succeed this season! Congrats to the girls on a great season, and good luck in all to come!
