On March 31, the Poland Seminary High School Track Season began. With high expectations from an amazing year previously, the track team was ready to impress. Pressure and expectations are oftentimes seen as stressful, but that isn’t the case for the Bulldogs.
When speaking to Sophomore Carter Iberis, this can be shown. With a late start to the track season, Iberis has shown great passion and a competitive nature this season.
Iberis expresses, “I am mainly focused on high jump and long jump this year.”
He expresses great enthusiasm when it comes to these two events as it is his favorite, as well as the two events he is most talented in.
Iberis also already has goals this season.
When asked about the topic about goals, Iberis explains, “I want to break my personal record from this year and jump 6 feet in high jump.”
Goals are always an amazing trait for a person to have, especially an athlete.
Iberis shows a competitive nature, hard work, and dedication, while also being a great teammate. These characteristics make it so he is able to be such a successful student athlete and achieve all of the milestones he plans to overcome.
When speaking to Ben Horn, another student athlete, it can also be seen that he is a great role model.
Horn participates in events like relays, sprints, but the event he is most proud of is long jump.
When asked about which meets he is most excited about to show off his talent, Horn expresses, “I am excited for all of the meets, but I am most looking forward to the Poland Invitational. It was a positive experience last year, and I always perform at my best when we have our home meets.”
With Horn being a home field advantage type of competitor, it makes it so he is the most confident in any space when he has the comfort of his own track.
Ben is like Carter in many aspects, but especially with setting high standards for himself that he will not rest until they are accomplished.
When talking to Horn about if there are any personal achievements he wants to overcome with this upcoming season, he expressed, “I want to jump 19 feet by the end of this season.”
With Ben stating this, it isn’t just him saying what he wants to do, it is him setting a standard for himself, that he knows he won’t stop working towards until he accomplishes it.
With there being so many exciting factors about this upcoming season, it truly is hard to pinpoint which is more important at times. Overall, this year’s Poland Seminary High School Track Team has so much potential that they all know they will execute this season. Good luck to our competitors, and GO DOGS!
