Recently, the Poland Seminary High School Spanish Club took a trip to the Gateway Clipper Fleet in Pittsburgh for a dinner cruise and a night of fun activities. An annual tradition, this club has loads of fun while dancing, interacting with other schools, and competing in challenging trivia!
Mrs. Latronica, a Spanish Teacher at Poland Seminary, has given us her input on the preparation and perseverance it takes to plan this cruise.
She said, “Securing a spot is extremely difficult. There are very few spots to secure, so I must plan accordingly.”
A very large return rate is seen with this specific event. Behind Trunk or Treat, this is the most popular event the club hosts.
Countless students have attended this event over the years. We spoke with three students who have attended this cruise multiple times, and they gave their impressions of the cruise this year.
Gigi Zenobi, a junior at Poland Seminary High School, has attended this cruise twice.
Zenobi says that her favorite parts of the cruise were “the food, the amazing atmosphere, and the giant conga line.”
Zenobi has a tradition of starting a conga line and recruiting as many people as possible to join.
“This single event has created countless interactions that have led to many friendships of mine,” she added.
Another student who attended this cruise for a second time was Sophomore Lloyd Anders. Once again, the delicious food was a favorite of the students. A buffet provided countless nutritious meals such as rice and beans, empanadas, chicken, carrots, and lemon cake.
After a brief interview, Lloyd said, “I had 3 slices of Lemon cake; it was amazing.”
And finally, Sophomore Aiden Young has a blast on this cruise.
Young said, “Meeting a bunch of people and making friends was the best part. The food and music were way better this year and made it more enjoyable.”
Even though the three students gave positive reviews overall, they all had a single grievance in common. Every student said they had enjoyed last year better because of the better turnout of people.
“This year, unfortunately, many school events conflicted with the cruise, so we had a lower turnout,” says Senora Latronica.
Overall, this cruise provides a safe environment for students to celebrate and enjoy time with their peers!
