To the Poland Seminary High School,
My name is Jake O’Bruba, and in a few days here, I will be walking towards Mr. Snyder at graduation to receive my diploma. I have been in the Seminarian Class since my sophomore year in high school. In this class, I learned many valuable lessons and met a lot of new friends.
I decided to take this class because during my sophomore year, I wanted to be a sports journalist, and I thought this would be a good resume builder. But plans change. I will be heading to Oxford, Ohio at Miami University. I will be majoring in Sports Management for the path to become a Sports Agent. I also plan to attend law school after I receive my bachelors degree.
Walking into this class, I immediately wanted to make an impact. I became the Sports-Editor my first year. I vividly remember my first article, which was about the boys lacrosse team not having a coach. I interviewed Mr. Banfield on the coaching vacancy, and I remember how nervous I felt. I wanted to make the best article possible. After publishing my first article, I fell in love. My second article I interviewed Carmine Tukalo, when he made his first varsity appearance in basketball. This article became the most viewed article at the time. Carmine from that point went on to score over 1000 points in high school and etch his name in the record books. My favorite articles to write were the athlete of the month articles. You got to learn about the athletes you were writing about. You heard stories about their sports careers and their lives, which was the best part about it.
My junior year in high school, I was promoted to the Editor-In-Chief position of the newspaper. In this position, I conducted the brainstorms about articles and reviewed over stories. This year, I wrote my favorite article in the class. This was the Senior Map of colleges. The cover of the article took a very long time to make, and it was fun finding out where almost every senior was going to college.
If you want to join the Seminarian, I would definitely recommend it. You meet a lot of great people in the class, and you really get to know what is going on in your school and community. This class also looks very good when you are applying to colleges. Colleges like to see that you are putting yourself out there, and this class represents this perfectly. Thank you Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Kasten for making this class the best 5th period I have ever had. They are the real backbone of this class, and they taught me what it was like to be a writer.
Signing Off,
Jake O’Bruba
Editor In Chief
