In Poland Seminary High School, we take many things seriously: our education, holding ourselves up to the highest standards, and sports. Sports are a part of the Bulldog culture, which we pride ourselves by. With sports going on all year, there are so many incredible student athletes all around! Senior Jacob O’Bruba is a prime example of this.
O’Bruba has provided excellence to the swim team, as he has made it to state time and time again. This year, he did just that by qualifying for state and proving just how good of an athlete he is.
When talking to O’Bruba on how it feels to make it to state for his second year in a row, he stated, “It feels great getting to go to state with your friends.” Since this is his second time making it to state, he feels that it is the same competition and pressure, but he is more than ready.
O’Bruba has been swimming since he was a freshman, and in his earlier years, he didn’t see himself making it to this point. However, with the work he put in, as well as with the help from his teammates and coaches, he overcame his expectations.
O’Bruba has overcome obstacle after obstacle, in the water and out, and still succeeded in his sport he loves. He stated, “I’m just lucky and happy to be swimming right now.” This shows just how much determination and dedication he has to this sport and his craft.
With O’Bruba being a senior, this is his final year doing the sport he loves, so he may think to himself has he accomplished all his goals? When asking O’Bruba, he believes, “I have achieved all of the goals I’ve ever had.”
O’Bruba has had an incredible season, and I wish him the best of luck with the rest of his school year!
