With the month of April coming to an end it is officially time to select an athlete of the month. This month’s pick was tough: baseball, softball, boys and girls lacrosse, tennis. For the month of April, the Seminarian Newspaper team has selected baseball sophomore Joe Zuccaro!
Zuccaro is the third baseman for our Poland Seminary baseball team, and he also steps to the mound to pitch. He has been performing well both at the plate and in the infield. Joe has a batting average of .260 and he bats sixth in the lineup. Although this is his first year of varsity baseball, Zuccaro has been playing for 12 years. Zuccaro has high hopes to finish the 2024 season:
“This year I’m looking to get an all conference nomination, all state, and or conference player of the year. As for the team, I’m hoping we make a deep run and win the conference, and potentially win the state title.”
The sport of baseball always isn’t a clear path to success. Many boundaries both mentally and physically impose themselves on players. As for Zuccaro, his struggles are mostly mental, but he works to overcome them.
“My biggest struggle is the mental side of things. Overthinking –or not thinking at all–and not performing to the best of my ability when I know I can do better are my biggest endeavors. My biggest area for improvement is to just play and have fun.”
The Bulldogs are 13-1, having already clinched a share of the NE8 conference title and a playoff appearance. With six games left and a tough stretch to end the year, the dogs are determined now more than ever to finish strong and gain momentum heading into the playoffs. Poland Seminary will face off with the Hubbard Eagles 4/29 at Hubbard and rematch the next day at Poland. Go support Joe Zuccaro and the Poland Seminary Baseball Team as they wrap up a fantastic season!
