On November 25th, 2025, the Poland Seminary Student Council held their annual Thanksgiving assembly. Nico Ruggieri, PSHS social correspondent, served as the primary speaker. Ruggieri focused on the principles of humility, and self respect, whilst urging students to accept themselves.
Additionally, each class president spoke about the importance of giving thanks, and practicing gratitude.
Freshman class president, Noah Babyak, explained the importance of showing compassion, and generosity while reminding peers to not take others’ benevolence for granted.
Sophomore class president, Zach Marantis, shared thanks for those in his life, and compelled his peers to take nothing for granted. When we spoke to Marantis we asked him what the holiday means to him. He replied “Thanksgiving, to me, is the recognition of the quality time we spend with those we love most, and it is important to express gratitude towards those we appreciate.”
Junior class president, McKenna Daley reminded students that time is precious and should be savored rather than wished away. In this, she explained the significance of cherishing moments with those whom we are grateful for.
Finally, Senior class president, Douglas Stoudt Jr., explained his personal gratitude for music and its outstanding effect on every culture. This offered a new perspective on thoughtfulness and provided evidence of gratitude on many levels.
Each story shared, left the student body with a sense of gratefulness and pushed them to recognize even the simple moments in life. As students and faculty reflect on this assembly, and the holiday season, we are reminded of the true importance of life.
We asked students to share their own, unique viewpoints on this:
Sophomore, Kilaney Berendt stated, “Time is very special, and should be revered; especially, that shared with important people.”
Sophomore, Lilliana Madeline claimed, “The holidays provoke me to cherish my many blessings.”
Sophomore, Zach Marantis quoted, “Thanksgiving helps me show deep gratitude to my loved ones.”
Junior, Luke Lockiec said, “Thanksgiving means a special time to hang out with my family, enjoy good food, and appreciate the moments we get to spend together.”
All in all, Thanksgiving provides a time for Americans to reflect upon our own blessings and bless others with generosity.
