The weather is getting colder, but the winter sports are starting to heat up. Athletes are performing near to their peaks, and the postseason in starting to creep up. Senior Swimmer Maddie Bell is also off to a good start.
Bell has been swimming since she was in elementary school, and just recently moved to Poland, last year. She made an instant impact to the swim team, adding another fast team member to the girls team.
Bell helped the girls team clutch the NE8 title, and she won first team all NE8 honors.
Bell’s training goes as so, “ I go to practice everyday where we work on technique and we have practices revolving around sprinting and distance swimming. I go to the gym after practice to get my muscles stronger for swimming. Also, I try to keep protein and carbs a main factor in my diet during swim season,” said Bell
What goes with training is leadership. Bell is the Senior captain for the girls swim team. With the captain role, Bell has to stay positive and lead the younger girls to become better swimmers.
Some advice that Bell has for younger swimmers is, “When younger swimmers come to me for advice, I tell them to stay consistent and put in hard work. Also, have fun with the sport.”
Bell also said, “If you want to swim, it takes a lot of time and consistency as well as commitment. If you are younger, always listen to your coaches and work on your technique as much as you can.”
Bell previously swam for Jackson Milton; in her two years there, she found success in the post-season. As she came to Poland, her post-season success continued.
Bell said, “ I hope to drop time and make districts again.”
We wish Maddie Bell and the rest of the swim team a healthy and fast rest of the swim season. We also wish the rest of the winter athletes a great rest of the season. GO DOGS!
